Community Based Climate Monitoring

Tuktoyaktuk Community Climate Resilience Project

In 2019, the TCC began a 3-year community-based climate monitoring project with the aim of increasing the awareness and knowledge of Tuktoyaktuk residents on the effects of climate-driven changes on their community. Through the project the Hamlet is developing their capacity to use geospatial tools and services to monitor and share climate-related data.

The project engages community members to collect data throughout the year on environmental conditions such as permafrost evolution, sea ice formation and breakup, lake turbidity, and plant bloom in Tuktoyaktuk and the surrounding area.
